After 20 years of working for various businesses, including 3 years full-time while my 2 children were young (just starting school and preschool), I was burnt out. It’s not a failure to admit you need a break. Once I allowed myself this truth and gave myself some space to breathe, I was able to focus – I started to question the things that were important to me.
Although the specifics of each will continue to change and evolve with time and life stages, I established that the key focuses in my life are family, friends, connecting with nature and working with people. I want the flexibility to walk my children to school, help with craft in the classroom, make an extra meal for a friend in need and hit the sea for a surf to wash off life’s stresses.
BUT, it’s also important to me to provide a meaningful contribution to my community and region more broadly. I passionately believe that people should be able to enjoy their jobs, no matter what they are, and that all businesses should be working toward having a great culture that their employees can thrive in. I understand that most small businesses can’t afford to have a dedicated, in-house HR function, or even those that are large enough might not be able to afford the experienced person they need. That’s where Y People comes into play. With extensive experience in many industries and varied business sizes and models, I can support your business with professional and personal HR solutions for your people.
